EMDR stands for Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing.  It is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals reprocess and integrate distressing memories and experiences.

EMDR therapy involves using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping. This stimulation is thought to mimic the brain’s natural processing during REM sleep, helping to reduce the emotional charge associated with traumatic memories and allowing them to be unlocked and moved on to long term memory.

It can also be used to support various other areas, including, but not limited to:

  • anxiety, panic attacks, phobias
  • depression, bipolar disorders
  • grief
  • chronic illness, medical issues, pain
  • eating disorders
  • sexual assault, physical violence and abuse
  • substance misuse and addiction

EMDR is recognised for its effectiveness by organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICEand the American Psychological Association (APA).

If you’re interested in EMDR and would like to know more, you can contact Emma to get some further information, including an outline of what each session involves.

BTR stands for Birth Trauma Resolution and is a psychotherapy technique developed in the UK specifically for perinatal trauma, utilising the Rewind Technique and strategies from the Human Givens model.  It can be described as closure without disclosure, meaning you don’t need to relive the traumatic experiences in detail, which can be beneficial.

BTR therapy is a gentle, yet effective, solution focused intervention which combines an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma with evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help you process and rebuild following your traumatic experiences.

This therapy is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives (UK) and the Human Givens Institute of Psychotherapy; with it being widely used across the UK, Ireland and heading further afield.

If you’re interested in BTR therapy and would like to know more, you can contact Emma to get some further information, including an outline of what each session involves.
